We want to keep poetry affordable.
As part of Off The Chest’s current Arts Council England project, we’re pledging to keep poetry events affordable by never charging more than £8 for tickets. And most of the time, we’ll charge far less than £8.
We’re big believers in keeping our spaces open to everyone. Low cost tickets reduce the financial barriers to accessing open mic poetry in our venues across London and the country. It also gives everyone an affordable chance of seeing feature sets from some of the best-known poets in the country. After all, cutting-edge poetry should be available to everyone, including those from lower income backgrounds.
What’s more, thanks to our ACE funding, we can pay our feature poets and ourselves fairly too. Our community has supported us to get to this level and we want to wear our affordable tickets as a badge of honour.
For a lot of people, poetry events also provide a social space for making new friends, expressing emotions, and feeling a sense of belonging among others who enjoy the art form. We never want anyone to feel like they can’t come to our events because they can’t afford the ticket price. So we will keep our ticket prices as low as possible.
And of course, never charge more than £8!
